Wanja is an elderly woman. She had four children and they all died of HIV leaving her with three grandchildren who are between the age of 5 to 12 years .Apparently two of the kids got infected with HIV and Wanja has to take them to the hospital every month for treatment.
Wandia is a 35 year old lady. She has two kids aged between 7 -16 years old. She is confined on a wheelchair and due to her disability she is not able to get a good job to support her kids. She sells vegetables by the roadside at least to earn some money. She depends on Hilfe Fuer Nyeri and other good Samaritans who offer to pay for her children’s school fees, food and house rent.
Kagori was a very old man married to a young lady. They have seven children aged between 3-16 years old. Due to his old age he was not able to do any kind of work to support his family. His wife is mentally ill and that makes it difficult for her to take care of her kids and this has led them to be invested with jiggers which have affected their toes hence they cannot be able to put on shoes. Mr. Kagori died a few years ago living his children under the care their 16 year old brother. These family depends on the monthly donations from Hilfe Fuer Nyeri for food and jiggers medication.
Josephine is a 44 year old lady. She is a single mother of six children. She has a urinary and reproductive system problem. Due to lack of money her condition became worse preventing her from working and supporting her own children. Despite her condition she still looks for casual jobs to do so that she can at least get money to take care of her children’s needs. She also depends on HFN for food.
