Ristus came into this world carrying a burden no child should ever have to bear. He was born without an anus, a condition that meant survival itself depended on urgent surgeries. Ristus all grown
The surgeries Ristus urgently needed were complex and costly. His mother, despite her unwavering love and determination, simply could not afford them. She stood helpless, watching her son suffer, praying for a miracle she did not know would come.

HFN stepped in when hope was almost gone and covered the cost of up to five lifesaving surgeries. Each surgery was not just a medical procedure, but a promise that Ristus’s life was worth fighting for, that his future mattered and that his mother was not alone. Those interventions gave Ristus a chance to live with dignity and gave his mother strength to keep believing.
Twenty years later, an unforgettable moment unfolded. Dirk was able to meet Ristus and his mother again. This time not as a fragile child fighting for survival but as a full-grown young man, healthy, strong and full of life. The emotions of that reunion were overwhelming. It was impossible not to feel moved, knowing that the surgeries HFN paid for, years ago were truly not in vain.
Today Ristus is doing well. He lives a normal healthy life, something that once seemed impossible. His mother’s heart remains full of gratitude and together they continue to carry deep appreciation for HFN Members and Donors whose kindness changed the course of their lives forever.
